Your data, plainly explained.
Last updated 31 August 2026
Smashio ("we", "us") runs the Smashio app and smashio.com.au. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you're in control of it. We're an Australian company and we only collect what we need to get you onto a court.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email, and profile photo when you sign up, including via Apple or Google sign-in.
- Profile info: skill tier, playing history, and preferences you add to your profile.
- Location: approximate or precise location, only while using the app, to show nearby games and courts.
- Game activity: games you host, join, or complete, and ratings tied to those games.
- Messages: chat messages you send in a game's group chat, visible to other players in that game.
- Device and usage data: crash logs, app version, basic analytics, and a device push token used to send you game notifications.
- Beta requests: if you email us to ask for beta access, we keep your email address and the platform you play on, so we can add you to the test build.
- Booking confirmation photos: if you host a game and upload a booking confirmation, we send that photo to Google's Gemini AI to auto-fill the game details (venue, time, cost). The photo may show your name, email, or part of your card number if they're visible in the screenshot.
Why we collect it
- To match you with games and players near you.
- To run the reliability and skill-tier system that keeps games fair.
- To send you notifications about games you're part of (you can turn these off).
- To fix bugs and improve the app.
- To add you to the beta and tell you when Smashio launches, if you've asked for beta access.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with:
- Other players: your name, photo, tier, reliability record, and any chat messages you send are visible to players in games you join or host.
- The public web: if you set a game to Public, its venue, time, cost, and spots left may appear on smashio.com.au for anyone to see, including people without an account. Your name is never shown. Set it to Link only to keep it visible only to people you share the link with.
- Service providers: Supabase (database and authentication), Sentry (crash reporting), Apple/Google (sign-in), Google Gemini (reading booking confirmation photos to auto-fill game details), Vercel and PostHog (website analytics), who process data on our behalf under their own security standards.
- Law enforcement: only if legally required.
Cookies
The app has no cookies. The website (smashio.com.au) uses Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless, and PostHog, which sets a small first-party cookie to tell repeat visits apart, so we can see which pages lead to an install. We don't use either for ads, and we don't share this data with ad networks. It also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which may see your IP address as part of that request.
Your controls
- Edit or delete your profile information at any time from the app.
- Turn off location access or notifications in your device settings.
- Request a copy of your data by emailing hello@smashio.com.au.
- Delete your account and the data attached to it — see Delete your account for the steps, what's removed, and what we keep.
- Ask us to remove you from the beta list at any time by replying to any email we send, or emailing hello@smashio.com.au.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep records for legal or fraud-prevention reasons. The full breakdown is on Delete your account.
Booking confirmation photos are deleted 7 days after the game finishes. We keep the booking details we pulled from the photo (venue, time, cost) so your game history stays intact, just not the image itself.
Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest, and access to your data is limited to what's needed to run the service.
Children
Smashio isn't intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll notify active users in-app or by email before the change takes effect.
